Un amour subversif
Collection Les Éditions Fidélité

How do we react to the violence of others: with passivity, counter-violence, or non-violence? What Jesus did was to delegitimize all violence and propose to confront it with a subversive, non-violent love. He calls on his disciples to reflect on truth and progressively transform that dark side, present in all of us, and particularly visible when the violence has been endured. In certain situations, Catholic doctrine – like that of other Christian denominations - accepts the legitimacy of individual and collective violence when practised in self-defence. Michel Callewaert would like to see us take a more Evangelical direction, beginning with a radical refusal of all violence. To fight against the collective injustice which is at the origin of the most serious violence, he suggests conscientious objection and non-violent initiatives. A new approach, in a book that is rich in quotations, inviting the reader to consult with Christ, who teaches us to live in love that is respectful of the life and dignity of all mankind, even in its violence.
