Dans le silence de Dieu. Des mots pour l'espérance
Collection Intimité du christianisme

‘Why stand you afar off, O Lord? Why hide you yourself in times of trouble?’ When we are filled with despair in the face of the world’s miseries, the words of the psalmist strike an echo in our hearts. Where are you, my God? Posed in a variety of ways, that question inspires and guides the meditations that run through this book. Without ever trying to impose his convictions or his faith, the author invites us, almost shyly, to seek the intimate presence of God which is unveiled in human faces and, in a special way, in those who suffer. Along with the great friends of the Lord, we meet many anonymous characters in these pages – believers or not – who changed his way of seeing things: the unemployed or professional people in difficulty, the dying patients he met in his voluntary work in a palliative care centre. Listening to them, he discovered that our fragility becomes a source; that at the depths of our weakness, hope can spring again. Amidst the noise of the world, are we able to listen to the silence of our God, and here the words that Isaiah pronounced: ‘You are precious in my eyes, and I love you’? And if the outlook is too dark, still leave a little window open?
