Qu'êtes-vous allés voir au tombeau ?
de Guy Touton
210 pages - avril 2007
‘This volume offers a series of meditations on a Man entombed, swathed in a shroud, Jesus of Nazareth, who, resurrected, overwhelmed all witnesses and so greatly inspired the arts. Reduced to silence on the sepulchral slab, He is the founding Word of every word and every language, the Body of the Scriptures. Laid out in the obscurity of death, He is the light that opens our eyes, to see ourselves, our violent history and the mystery of God. Behind the millstone of the tomb, He is the Motif in which we are created, He who knows what lies in the heart of man, holds the Measure of every conscience, Christian or otherwise, through His universal “I was hungry, I was thirsty”, Pardon personified, the intransigent blaze before which we must stand up and be counted. He is that unfathomable and incomprehensible Love which manifested itself in the washing of feet, the Last Supper and on the Cross. It is the contemplation of Christ’s mystery that compels me, each day, to visit the sick… I have written this book because in that mutilated and radiant man, within whom “dwells Divinity in all its plenitude”, all suffering is modelled, incorporated, transported, transfigured. If this truly is God, we may fall upon our knees!”
